love what you do

“To love what you do and feel that it matters… how could anything be more fun?”
— Katherine Graham (1917 -2001),

volunteer for the village

If you are not yet ready to join, we welcome you as volunteer. Volunteers are the heart of Village At Home. Give as little or as much time as you want -- we have no minimum requirements. Experience that special satisfaction when you make a difference in a meaningful way.

Because we serve some vulnerable individuals, we screen and train all Village volunteers.

Please email our Volunteer Coordinator for more information.

You may also sign up for one of our required volunteer orientations by visiting our event calendar and clicking on the date that works for your schedule.

NeighborRide: Drive members locally, using your own vehicle, to anywhere the member needs to go. Mileage is deductible on your tax return at the IRS charitable rate. This is our most requested service. Rides are usually scheduled in advance, or you may choose to be on-call during a particular time frame for last-minute requests.

HouseWatch: Keep an eye on a member’s house while that member is out of town. Feed the pets. Water the plants. Take in the mail.

Rise ’n’ Shine: Call homebound members to check in. Daily calls may be shared with other volunteers.

Deliver Bon Appetit Meals: Deliver to members who order healthy meals from a local caterer.

Friendly Visitors: Visit a member at home, or enjoy one-to-one outings. Provide companionship, converse, play games, watch movies, have a cup of coffee, go out to lunch or reminisce about old times.

Baby-sitting: If you are a mature adult who loves children, you can give back by volunteering occasional child care services to young families.

Errands in a Pinch: Pick up dry cleaning, drop off a book at the library, shop for a few items at the grocery store

Home & Garden: Volunteers provide an array of services for members in and around their homes. Tasks vary from taking out the recycling to changing a hard-to-reach lightbulb, minor home repairs, gardening, yard clean-up, leaf-raking or snow removal.

Technology Assistance: Set up a member’s email account, teach a member how to use email and surf the web, program a remote control, set a thermostat, program a cell phone.

Organizing: Help sort the mail, clean out a closet, eliminate clutter, organize paperwork, file insurance claims.

Wellness: Facilitate walking or exercise groups or organize yoga classes.

Social Activities: Plan and participate in social activities and outings for members.

Village At Home Office: Answer the phones, find a volunteer to meet a service request, follow up with the member after a service, enter data, do bookkeeping, help with mailings, assist with the newsletter, and update the website. Or take on a larger responsibility!

Village At Home Fundraising: Assist with fundraising events, phone-a-thons, thank-a-thons, mailings, data entry and other activities to help Village At Home to raise funds.

Village At Home Committees: Join a Village At Home committee. Contribute your expertise to the ongoing governance of the organization.

Membership Recruitment: Help with marketing, graphic design, writing/editing, public speaking.

Neighborhood Liaison: Be your neighborhood’s Village booster!

Educational & Cultural Activities: Organize groups of members into interest groups, set up lectures or arrange for groups of members to access theater, music, art and educational events in the area.

Other: Don’t see exactly what you had in mind? We could only include some of the jobs and tasks for which Village At Home needs volunteers. Tell us what you want to do. Most likely we can find an assignment to match!
